Workshop Overview
This workshop highlights the power of digital illustration in liver transplantation and HPB surgery. Traditionally, medical, anatomical, and scientific illustrators have played a vital role in depicting human anatomy through detailed drawings. Their contributions continue to evolve, as reflected in the work showcased by the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI).
With the advent of digital tools, surgical illustration has entered a new era. Applications such as
Procreate on the iPad have made it possible for surgeons themselves to create clear, precise, and accessible visuals that directly aid surgical decision-making. This workshop will feature the unique perspective of
Dr. Toru Goto, a liver transplant and HPB surgeon who integrates digital illustrations into his clinical practice.
Beyond teaching, digital illustrations hold promise in
preoperative planning, reducing learning curves, and potentially improving patient outcomes by lowering complication rates.
By sharing experiences and techniques, this workshop aims to inspire participants to adopt illustration as a valuable tool in their own practice. Whether you are a surgeon, trainee, or educator, you will discover how blending surgical expertise with digital art can transform understanding and precision in complex hepatobiliary and transplant surgery.
Dive into the social profiles of Dr Toru Goto to see his surgical illustrations on HPB and Liver Transplant in the past few years.
Try to practice drawing in procreate app before attending the workshop, this would make your participation in the workshop more interactive and productive.
