Workshop Overview

The workshop has been structured to equip transplant coordinators with an in-depth understanding of organ donation and transplantation, with particular emphasis on the legal and ethical framework governing the field.

The programme shall provide a comprehensive overview of the coordination processes involved in organ donation and transplantation, with a specific focus on Donation after Brain Death (DBD), Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) and the unique complexities associated with Living Donor Liver Transplantation.

Learning objectives

Gain comprehensive knowledge on Donation after circulatory death (DCD) in India, including the associated legal and ethical frameworks.
Understand the processes and current status of Donation after brainstem death (DBD).
Acquire the ability to effectively coordinate transplant procedures and organ transportation.
Demonstrate competency in coordinating multi-organ retrievals, provide sensitive and effective counselling to grieving families considering organ donation.
Confidently manage and navigate protocols involved in Living Donor Liver Transplantation.
Enhance understanding of ethical issues pertaining to deceased donors.
Recognise the role of governmental and non-governmental organisations involved in strengthening the deceased donation and transplantation programme.
